The Laboratory's main purpose is in direct support of the Wichita Falls Health District's in-house clinics. These include the Sexually Transmitted Disease Clinic, Maternal and Child Health Clinic, the Women, Infant, and Children Clinic (WIC), as well as supporting the Water Pollution, Food Control, Environmental Health, and Animal Control Divisions. These support services range from clinical laboratory testing of blood, serum, urine, and other body fluids to analysis of food, water, and soft-serve ice cream samples. The Laboratory also provides some testing for outside agencies such as the Wilson Family Planning Clinic and the Family Health Center.
Additionally, the Laboratory accepts animal heads for shipment to the Texas Department of Health (TDH) Laboratory in Austin for Rabies Testing (See the Menu Selection for Rabies Testing).
This division is also responsible for the Industrial Pretreatment Program, Grease Trap Program including Grease Trap permitting, Waste Hauler permitting, and is the contact point for water pollution complaints.
