I'm a toilet, not a trashcan campaign

People are flushing all kinds of things down the toilet!

It’s not a trashcan, you know!

Products such as wipes, paper towels and feminine hygiene products should not be flushed, but often are, causing problems for utilities that amount to billions of dollars in maintenance and repair costs – costs which ultimately pass on to the consumer. Other consumer products contain ingredients, such as plastic microbeads and triclosan, which may harm water quality and the environment. Fat, oils and greases (FOG) in particular, as well as unused pharmaceuticals, should also be kept out of the sewer system.

Here is a short list of items that should not go in the toilet, but rather disposed in the trashcan.

"Flushable" Wipes
Hair
Paper Towels
Gum Wrappers
Medications Make-up Removal Wipes
Diapers Dental Floss
Cotton Swabs
Cigarettes
Feminine Hygiene Products
Bandages
Cat Litter
Condoms
Grease Disposable Razors

Follow the 3 P’s of determining if something should go down the toilet:

  • Pee
  • Poop
  • Paper (Toilet Paper)
